Driving Safety
For many seniors, being able to drive is one of the major ways they are able to stay independent. Many seniors rely on their cars to get them to medical appointments, the grocery store, church and special events. But, it’s no secret that the older we become, they more likely we’ll be involved in an automobile accident. While many elder drivers are among the safest on the road, fatality rates for drivers begin to climb after age 65. From ages 75 to 84, the rate is equal to teen drivers. At age 85, the fatality rate soars, to almost four times that of teen drivers.
