Stephanie ShawRecreation Specialist and Art Therapist

Art has always played a large role in my life. I immersed myself in it as a child and attended a performing arts middle and high school in South Florida. Art has helped me through difficult times. In my undergraduate years I enjoyed working in hospitals, community centers, schools, and assisted living facilities. After continuing my education and completing my Master of Professional Studies in Art Therapy at SVA, I spent the next 5 years working among adolescents with mental illness and trauma in the South Bronx.

This further fueled my desire to reach people from all walks of life, young and elderly. I co-founded an Art Therapy Studio in Hoboken New Jersey where we facilitated Art Therapy groups and individual sessions designed to meet people where they were at and use the creative art making process to address their personal goals.

After starting a family, I was grateful to be able to put my professional work on pause to focus on raising my 3 children. Although motherhood will always be the greatest work of my life, I am beyond excited to have now found a way to reignite my passion for Art Therapy and bring it to people who need it once again! I look forward to enhancing the creative process and recreation therapy techniques to the clients we serve in the SPICE program. I believe wholeheartedly that Art Therapy can improve their cognitive function, memory, mood, motor skills and overall quality of life.
